OUR JOURNEY
Our Story
Karka began as a small initiative in March 2013, starting coaching classes for marginalized students to prepare them for the Locopilot exam in Ayanavaram. Later, in May 2013, we officially registered our organization and moved across various locations, including Royapettah, Thiruvanmiyur, and Kannagi Nagar.
Over the years, every new initiative we undertook has been an extension of our vision, bringing countless smiles along the way. We firmly believe that education can illuminate the lives of marginalized communities. To this end, we have worked to renovate schools to provide better infrastructure, offered scholarships and coaching classes, supplied essential school materials, and guided many students in navigating successful career paths through resources, mentoring, and training.
Alongside these efforts, we have also responded spontaneously to global crises, including COVID-19 and the situation in Gaza, providing immediate aid to affected communities.
Today, we are proud to say that our services impact at least 1,000 people each year, made possible through the support of our amazing volunteers, friends, and collaborators who have shared their light with us. Currently, we are focusing on raising scholarships and providing guidance for first-generation UG and PG learners, while also supporting sports programs for students at Perumbakkam Government College.
We continue our journey with hope and dedication, striving to empower every child and young adult to dream bigger, achieve more, and shine brighter.
OUR TIMELINE
Our Journey So Far
Here's how we grew — one moment, one school, one story at a time.
Started as informal coaching classes in Ayyanavaram for Loco Pilot and Sub-Inspector exams.
Moved to Palavakkam, Royapettah, and later Kannagi Nagar, expanding coaching for SSC, TNPSC, Group 4 exams.
Set up a children's library and began college admission and scholarship support.
School infrastructure projects at Keerapakkam: tiles, lights, painting, toilets, and more.
Launched large-scale COVID and flood relief across Chennai, Perumbakkam, Royyapetah and Athur.
Employment camp conducted for women in tsunami quarters of Kannagi Nagar & Ezhil Nagar.
Kannagi Nagar Evening Study Centre successfully entered its third year, supporting students from Classes 9–12.
Expanded scholarships, career guidance, and UG/PG admission support, impacting 1000+ beneficiaries annually.
Signed MoU with Perumbakkam Government Arts & Science College and initiated Phase 1 construction of the Kabaddi court.
Expanding sports infrastructure (volleyball, cricket nets, indoor arena) + UG/PG career and admission support.
Every step we took was guided by the belief that even small interventions can change the course of someone's life.
